Which Rustic Style Are You?

So you know you want a home that has a little more of a rustic feel to it, but which rustic feel?  There are a lot of directions one can go when creating a rustic atmosphere, from log home décor to cowboys and Indians, but they can’t all go together, so you need to pick a theme.

Here are the common rustic home décor themes and a few tips to accomplish them in your home:

Rustic Country Décor – This is the ‘Little House on the Prairie’ style of rustic dcor. The words that you should think of when setting this theme are soft and warm. Must-haves when considering rustic interior décor for your country theme are handmade quilts, accent pillows, woven baskets, and welcoming accents that make everyone feel at home as soon as they step in the door. You should never be at a loss for finding the right pieces for this theme, as most rustic décor catalogs have pages of these charming accents.

Rustic Western Décor – Cowboys come alive in this rustic atmosphere. Think wagon wheel tables, rustic leather sofas and chairs, wrought iron lamps and chandeliers. It’s a place a cowboy can kick his feet up after a long day on the cattle trail (assuming you have a rustic ottoman for his feet).  If you really want to sell the theme, you can put a pair of steer horns on the wall.

Rustic Southwestern Décor – This rustic décor theme takes you to the plains of New Mexico where the Native Americans have learned to live off of and in harmony with the land. The colors are bright, yet natural. Hand-painted and decorated pottery pieces are always nearby, and pillows and blankets are designed with tribal designs in mind. You can even hang a dream catcher to keep the bad thoughts out of this newly created positive space.

Rustic Cabin Décor – Bring in the moose and bear! Logs and natural looking wood surfaces are the way to go for this motif.  Think of the lodge décor the last time you went on a wilderness retreat.  There should be an abundance of brown, tan, green, burgundy colors as well as animal and tree themes. Don’t forget to add a few pinecones.
